'OI! DIS IS A ROBBERY!
New Swyvers Book!
“OI! This is a robb’ry!!
Gimme all yer shillings and oi’ll give you this BOOK wot I did writin’ for!”
Hello all!
This is crowdfunding promotion, yes, sneaking into your inbox. The horror! I am tragically sorry, hopefully this is something you’ll find interesting...
I’m extremely happy to announce that “A SWYVERS MISCELLANY” is now FUNDING with the Melsonian Arts Council on Backerkit!
This book is the result of running a lot of sessions of Swyvers. The incredible Andrew Walter has done some stunning art for it, adding suitably grisly icing to a cake stuffed with the cigarette stubs, severed body parts, and glass shards expected from anything Swyvers.
The book is a collection of a lot of odds and ends, little tidbits that my games really benefited from and that I think would help any GM struggling to wrangle The Smoke into a playable form. There’s a lot here, from Alchemy and Pickpocketing minigames, a grudge-tracker I found invaluable for remembering who had it out for my players and why, and several heapings of random tables, from bad teeth to dead drop stashes to underground animal fights.
Dan Sell, father of Troika, wisely said the point of a good random table is to “to be the thing you reach for when the players go way off script or get too clever” and I think that sums it up nicely.
The great news it that all the time-consuming work is done and the book will be out by June/July(ish)! Editing and layout are being worked on by the very skilled Sean F. Smith and Shuyi Zhang, so it will be beautifully polished for a book about gloriously unpolished subjects.
All we need now is cash; so go back it!
I’ve been wanting to write for Swyvers ever since I ran my first game of it. I’m overjoyed I can share this news. I genuinely mean it when I say that this wouldn’t have been possible without your readership.
I like you reader, thank you for the time you’ve so generously given me.
That’s enough mushy stuff. You know what to do if you’re interested in the book!
See you round and thank you for reading - as always.
Ewen
P.S. All this exciting stuff aside, I’ve been increasingly feeling it’s time to leave Substack and migrate my blog to greener pastures. I’ll update you all with the new link when I do, but I’m sorry to have been inactive here for so long. Blogs are hard, and good blogs worthy of readership are even harder. Watch this space!
